Artistic Practice:
Having completed my photographic studies, I study cultural anthropology. I am fascinated in how people think and feel, what values and sensations are important to an individual as well as an entire culture. I incorporate this ethnological approach into my studio practice – examining different people’s perceptions and ideas, where the mind goes and why.
Additionally, I am passionate about environmental issues. In a culture of consumption and disposability where everything is viewed as infinite and disposable, it seems almost inevitable that the limited resources we do have are soon going to run out. I am torn between an optimism that humanity can rally in time and the scientific truth that many of the changes we have inflicted on the planet are already permanent and ultimately devastating.
Working mostly in analogue photography I create still images that these themes, exploring different darkroom techniques and equipment to create the images I want. Recently I have begun to experiment with installation and moving image and the possibilities these media create.
